Rotterdam Business School is the international faculty of Hogeschool Rotterdam, one of the largest Universities of Higher Professional Education in The Netherlands. Hogeschool Rotterdam is the result of a merger between HES Rotterdam and HRO in 2002.

Rotterdam Business School offers people who would like to build on their knowledge and skills and have a specific job in mind in the field of Finance and Accounting, Consultancy and Entrepreneurship or Logistics Management, three specialised one-year full-time Master Programmes. Every year in September and February talented and motivated candidates from all over the world can take this next step in their career. Through this programme, you will acquire the right skills, knowledge and attitudes for the job you are looking for.

We offer you programmes that are geared towards competency development. Based on professional profiles you will be stimulated to work on your knowledge, skills and attitudes needed for several specific business functions such as Financial Advisor, Consultant, Entrepreneur and Logistics Manager. The programmes have been validated by the Dutch Validation Council, in which the business community is represented. Furthermore, the programmes have been developed in co-operation with various companies, of which practising managers provide guest lectures in order to discuss today’s professional arena with the Master students. A Professional Quality Board, in which management team members from the business world reside, ensures the continuous monitoring of the quality and effectiveness of the programmes.

Programme Structure

From specific entry-level jobs after graduation, Rotterdam Business School and the business community have distracted the specific knowledge, skills and attitudes, i.e. the competencies needed. Through exciting projects, problems, cases and role-plays you will prepare yourself for the tasks set in the business world. The Master programmes are offered in a quarter system running from September until August or from February until January. On successful conclusion of the first three stages of the programme you are expected to write a thesis.

Core Modules

The Master programmes are built around core modules that are required for all Master students.
These are :

  • Organisational Behaviour
  • Critical Thinking and Argument Analysis
  • Organisational Architecture
  • Research Methodology
  • Business Ethics and Politics
  • Management of Technology
  • Interactive Project Design
  • Personal Development Programme

Specialisation Modules

In addition to these core modules you are offered specialisation modules. These modules have been developed around central themes in one of the three main areas of specialisation, i.e. Finance and Accounting, Consultancy and Entrepreneurship and Logistics Management.

Cross-Electives

In the total curriculum there is space left to select cross-electives that fit your personal interest and career development: you can join one or two of the other Master classes if you feel interested in or ambitious for a certain field within that specific specialisation.

In the total programme project and problembased learning is of key importance. Through specific projects and problems you are made to work on knowledge, skills and attitudes. During the last stage of your study you finalise the programme with the Master’s proof, the thesis, in which you combine all elements of your study. This thesis must fulfil academic requirements and be of practical use to a company or institute.

Master in Finance and Accounting

The Master in Finance and Accounting programme provides you with an understanding of how financial decisions affect a firm’s value. A financial approach towards managerial decision making taking into account behavioural aspects, describing and analysing problems of choice, and providing executives with the background and tools for financial analysis may result in an increase in a firm’s value. Master’s Graduates in Finance and Accounting will develop towards positions as Financial Managers.

Master in Consultancy and Entrepreneurship

As a Graduate from the programme, you will have developed the following competencies which are essential: Interdependence, Helicopter view and Entrepreneurial knowledge, skills and attitudes. Some consulting firms send their intake to their own training academies for ‘crash’-courses in consulting. After finishing the Master in Consultancy and Entrepreneurship programme successfully, you will have received a similar experience, and more: your education goes beyond the know-how of one specific consulting firm, and has a strong focus on critical reflection.

Master in Logistics Management

Logistics plays a major role not only for transporting organisations, but also for production companies such as Fuji Film, Royal Dutch Shell, NedCar, Hewlett Packard and Philips. In these companies, Logistics is used to have maximum control over the internal flow of goods from supplier to the complete finished product at minimum cost. Customer service is essential in this process. In this case the customer is not the only end user; the relationship between supplier and customer is also very important for the internal users. Logistics Managers are decision-takers, they must deal with a host of problems. Some are infrequent, while others recur constantly. Many are interrelated. Master’s Graduates in Logistics Management will develop towards positions as Logistics Managers.

Master in Finance and Accounting for Common Europe

In September 2007 RBS started with a new 2-year fulltime Master programme “Master in Finance and Accounting for Common Europe”. During the two years students will follow terms in four different European cities (Rotterdam, Rotterdam Business School; Prague, University of Economics; Ljubljana, University of Ljubljana; Banska Bystrica, Matej Bel University). The Master in Finance and Accounting for Common Europe programme will provide the students with an understanding of how financial decisions in Europe can affect firm value.

This Master programme is built on three pillars:
the educational programme, the research programme and the personal development pro gramme. The educational programme provides a profound knowledge of the necessary theories and frameworks and how to apply theory to practice. The research programme prepares students for academic research. In the personal development programme students reflect on themselves and the programme, in order to gain an understanding of their personal growth in the study programme.

This design was adopted to create the combination of knowledge, skills and attitude that all professional in the business field must have in order to operate successfully.

The programme consists of five terms. Four terms will be offered in the partner universities in order to create a Common European feeling and enhance international experience.
