Econometrics
Mission
Econometrics is internationally acknowledged as a field of study that is indispensable for modern decision-making in business and economics. Econometric models and methods are successfully applied in the daily practice of financial firms, central banks, statistical offices, and international governmental organisations.
The aim of this master?s programme is to provide high-quality academic training to enable students to pursue a successful career in business and government, or to excel in science. In addition to modern econometric theory, the programme is aimed at teaching the necessary skills for empirical application of econometric models and techniques to complex, real-world problems. After finishing the master programme, students should be able perform econometric analysis and research on their own. They should be able to apply existing econometric techniques or develop new statistical models if necessary.
Audience
The master?s programme in Econometrics is open for students who have acquired a university bachelor?s or master?s degree in a relevant subject at a Dutch or foreign university or fulfil the entry requirements specified below. Given the quantitative nature of this master?s programme, relevant in this context means Econometrics, Mathematics, Physics and so forth. Dutch students can take a tailor-made transition programme. Foreign students should get in touch early to see what they can do at their own universities to obtain the required knowledge level and skills, in order to satisfy the entry requirements.
Entry requirements
The basic entry requirements are a university bachelor?s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject, and fluency in spoken and written English. In addition your mathematical level and other quantitative skills should be up to the standard of a 3rd year econometrics student to the extent that is required to successfully complete the Master?s programme in Econometrics. In particular this concerns econometrics, statistics and matrix algebra (at the level of a mathematician/econometrician).
Job opportunities
Graduates from the master?s programme in Econometrics of the Econometric Institute have excellent job perspectives in diverse fields. They find careers in business, government, international economic organisations and academia. Students who perform well in their careers achieve positions as board members of leading industrial firms and banks or as highly positioned civil servants in national and international organisations. Graduates from the master?s programme in Econometrics also are well-equipped to pursue a PhD degree and become successful researchers in academia.
