Leisure Studies

The focal point of the one-year Master?s course Leisure Studies is the academic study of leisure from an integrated and multi-disciplinary perspective. Integrated means that the object leisure is studied from a coherent perspective. This is done, for example, from the demand-side (the side of social coherence and shaping of identity) and from the supply-side (the side of policy and organisation). Multi-disciplinary means that the course uses insights from Sociology and Psychology, as well as, although not as much, from Economics. The Master?s course students are trained for positions in Leisure (sports, culture, media, well-being, tourism, spatial development) which require an academic level of professional and intellectual ability. The programme aims at the national and international job market.

The programme of the Master?s course Leisure Studies is spread across two semesters of 14 weeks each. In total, 60 ECTS can be obtained from this programme. The first semester is characterised by lecture courses. It consists of five courses for 6 ECTS each. The second semester is dominated by the Master thesis (for 24 ECTS). The programme also includes a seminar, which starts halfway into the first semester and continues into the second. On the one hand, the seminar connects the lecture courses with the Master thesis. On the other hand, it connects the education programme of the Master Leisure Studies with the research programme of the associated research unit. Schematically, the programme is as follows: Leisure, consumption and identity (6 ects) Marketing and management in the leisure economy (6 ects) Leisure and space in the information society (6 ects) Leisure policies: state, market and community (6ects) Policy analysis and policy evaluation (6 ects) Seminar Leisure Studies (6 ects) Master thesis (24 ects) Ben je een afgestudeerde van de FSW bachelor VTW? Ben je een afgestudeerde van de bachelor Vrijetijdwetenschappen binnen FSW dan word je zonder aanvullende eisen toegelaten tot deze master. Heb je een van de andere FSW bachelors afgerond? Hen je een van de andere FSW bachelors afgerond, dan moet je de minor Vrijetijdwetenschappen in je bachelorpakket hebben gekozen. Bekijk de vakken van de minor Vrijetijdwetenschappen in de elektronische studiegids. Heb je een bachelordiploma van een andere universiteit? Heb je een bachelordiploma van een andere universitaire opleiding dan moet je een aanvraag indienen bij de Examencommissie van de Faculteit. De criteria die de Examencommissie hanteert zijn globaal: *Voldoende sociaalwetenschappelijke kennis *Voldoende kennis van methoden en technieken *Kennis van de bachelorvakken die deel uitmaken van de aansluitende minor. Studenten van gelijkwaardige opleidingen moeten wel een aanvraag indienen maar zullen over het algemeen zonder aanvullende eisen worden toegelaten. Voor afgestudeerden van de bachelor Business Studies (FEW) geldt dat zij zich wel via de Examencommissie moeten aanmelden, maar zonder aanvullende eisen worden toegelaten. Heb je het bij deze master behorende schakelprogramma gevolgd? Schakelstudenten die voldoen aan de toelatingeisen van de aansluitende Master (te weten maximaal 12 ECTS open staan aan studiepunten waarvan maximaal 1 MTO vak) moeten schriftelijk toelating tot de Masterfase aanvragen bij de Examencommissie van de Faculteit Sociale Wetenschappen, Postbus 90153, 5000 LE Tilburg ( of deze toelatingsverzoeken inleveren bij de balie van het Onderwijsinstituut in P 306). De Examencommissie beoordeelt de verzoeken tot toelating conform bovenvermelde eis en stuurt na een positief oordeel een schriftelijke bevestiging van de toelating aan de student. Een kopie van deze brief wordt tevens gestuurd naar de dienst die de inschrijvingen verzorgt (DEA). Deze dienst stuurt vervolgens een inschrijvingspakket voor de Masteropleiding naar de student. Het is dus voor schakelstudenten alleen mogelijk om via deze procedure als Masterstudent ingeschreven te worden! The Master Leisure Studies trains students for leisure-related careers in research and education, policy-making and management, which require an independent, academic level of working and thinking. Possibilities lie in the fields of: *Research and teaching jobs at universities and colleges with leisure-related courses (sports, recreation, culture, tourism, well-being, media); *Government jobs in policymaking regarding leisure on a national, regional or local level; *Research and development positions with leisure-oriented commercial research and advisory agencies; *Positions in strategic management and strategic marketing relating to leisure sectors. The job market includes the profit, non-profit and the ?not-for-profit? sectors. Job market research has learned that many students start their professional careers in assisting jobs, but soon move on to more strategic levels.
