International and European Public Law

This programme focuses on the public law aspects of international and European law and on how these bodies of law impact national legal orders. More in particular, it focuses on the role of international and European law in fostering the protection of human rights, the rule of law and the accountability of international and European institutions. The Programme enables participants to work with international and European law in a globalizing world in which legal systems are undergoing constant substantive and systemic change. Students are trained in the critical analysis of current legal developments and deepen their insights into the theory and practice of international and European law in an interdisciplinary context.

The Master Rechtsgeleerdheid in International and European Public Law offers a program that enables students to specialize in public international and European law while also enabling them to take courses in comparative law. Students also may choose to focus on public international or European law by selecting subjects in either of these areas. Students must show demonstrable knowledge of both public international law and European law in order to be able to participate in this programme.The main courses will be taught at an advanced level. Applicants must possess a basic knowledge of the main subjects. Students should also be fluent in spoken and written English; students from non-English-speaking countries will have to demonstrate their language skills. The programme is open to students holding a Bachelor?s degree in Law (Rechtsgeleerdheid or Nederlands recht) and EUR Dutch Law students who fulfil the transfer requirements (doorstroomregeling). Students holding a Bachelor?s degree in Tax Law can participate, but will be required to register for some additional courses. Additional entry requirements may apply for students with a Bachelor?s degree in Law from other Dutch universities. Students holding a Bachelor?s degree in Management, Economics and Law or Sociolegal Advice and Law obtained at an HBO university of professional education will first have to complete a transitional programme (schakelprogramma).This Master?s programme will broaden the perspective of the students, preparing them to master tasks in an international and multicultural professional environment.
